FAQs for Professional Qualifications
Where are my training venues located?
There are two training venues:
- London - 175 St. John Street, Clerkenwell, London, England, EC1V 4LW
- Manchester - St James House, Pendleton Way, Salford, Greater Manchester, M6 5FW
Which level of training is right for me after the Taster Day?
We have outlined a typical Place2Be training route through a visual training pathway.
After completing a Taster Day:
- If you have no previous counselling experience, you would join at Level 2.
- If you already have a Level 2 Award in counselling and meet the entry requirements, you could apply for Level 3.
- If you have a Level 3 Certificate in counselling and meet the entry requirements, you could apply for the Postgraduate Diploma.
I'm a qualified adult counsellor, which training level is right for me?
The current training provision available to qualified/qualifying counsellors is the free training available to Place2Be’s Counsellors on Placement. As a qualified/qualifying adult counsellor, you are eligible to apply for a placement with us.
I have an online counselling qualification, will this allow me to train at a higher level with Place2Be?
Unfortunately, we do not accept online courses (unless a face-to-face training was moved online due to COVID-19 delivery restrictions). Our training is highly experiential and requires a certain number of guided learning hours. These can be found under the Level 3 Certificate and Postgraduate Diploma entry requirements.
Do you offer any online training?
Our professional qualification courses are delivered in person and are all classroom-based - taking an experiential and integrative approach. We currently offer courses in London and Manchester only.
We do also offer a free online programme - Mental Health Champions - Foundation programme for qualified teachers and school-based staff in the UK. Please note, this isn’t a qualifying counselling training course, but one to gain a deeper understanding of mental health in a school setting. For more information about this, visit our Mental Health Champions - Foundation programme page or contact the team directly at mhc@Place2Be.org.uk.
Are Place2Be courses accredited?
Our Level 2 and 3 courses are accredited by the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB), and the Postgraduate Diploma course is awarded by the University of East London and accredited by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
Does my Psychology / Criminology / Childhood and Youth Studies / Teaching / Sociology degree count towards a Counselling qualification?
Due to the different approaches, we do not consider the above fields of study equivalent to counselling. Without any prior counselling qualifications, you would need to start from the beginning of our counselling pathway. If your previous qualifications contained specific modules in counselling, please refer to the entry requirements for each course for compatibility.
Do you provide any funding?
We do not offer student loans or funding for our courses. The course fee for the Taster Day is the only one paid in full, the Level 2, Level 3 and Postgraduate Diploma can be paid in instalments, which can help spread out costs.
The Level 2 / 3 course I wanted to join is fully booked - what do I do?
Your Taster Day attendance is valid for 12 months, so you have a full year to enrol on an available course or apply for a course starting at a later date. Any exceptions due to COVID-19 will be addressed on a case-by-case basis.
I’m booked onto a Level 2 / 3 course but want to transfer for a different date. What do I do?
If I qualify with Place2Be, does that mean I can work with children only?
How do I change the Taster Day or course I signed up for?
Please refer to the terms and conditions for information on transfers.
When do Taster Day bookings open?
We publish Taster Day dates on a monthly basis on our website through the Taster Day page. Please note, we receive high volumes of bookings and with COVID-19 restrictions limiting spaces available, we do not have waiting lists, so our Taster Days get booked on a first-come, first-served basis.
Please note, we currently offer Taster Days in London and Manchester only.
Can I apply for the Postgraduate Diploma with a Level 3 Certificate completed elsewhere?
Yes, if your Level 3 qualification includes at least 90 guided learning hours, theory, skills practice and evidence of self-awareness. Please note, we do not accept online courses.
I don’t have a degree, can I apply for the Postgraduate Diploma?
Applicants without a degree or equivalent professional qualification will be required to submit a 1,500-word essay with your application form.
When do applications open?
The Level 2 and 3 courses have several intakes per academic year. Our Postgraduate Diploma has one intake per academic year in autumn.
The team is yet to schedule for the next academic year 2022/2023. All updates about our qualifying courses will be listed on our website and included in the Mental Health Workforce newsletter. To sign up, please tick the relevant newsletter boxes in our enquiry form.
Can I apply as an international student?
We accept international students applicants who meet the entry requirements for our courses but we are not involved in any visa applications processes required for a right to work and/or study in the UK. Please note our qualifying courses are open for UK residents only.
