Course details
Our Level 6 Certificate programme consists of:
- self-directed learning
- live workshops on Zoom
- in-person workshops.
We’ll deliver the in-person elements of the course in a variety of regional UK locations, and the Zoom sessions will include all groups on the programme.
The course consists of 13 workshops with an additional three tutorial days.
About the workshops and tutorial days
Each of the 13 workshops uses of a variety of teaching methods, including:
- tutor input
- case studies
- practical exercises
- role play
- small and large group work
- discussion and feedback
- video work.
During the workshops, you'll give and receive feedback from each other as well as from course tutors. Testimony from your own supervisor(s) is also needed for the course.
There is one tutorial day with a designated assessment tutor at a mid-point during the course, with a second and final tutorial day at the end.
Tutors strive to model the core counselling skills of empathy, respect and genuineness, working towards forming relationships based upon shared meanings. Tutors will model boundaries in terms of time, place and appropriate behaviour.
You'll need supervisory supervision
Our awarding body, Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB), requires candidates to have a minimum of five supervisory supervision hours with a senior/experienced clinical supervisor during this programme.
This should take the form of group* and/or one-to-one supervision. You need to source your supervisory supervision and keep a log of it.
*note that BACP guidelines will apply when calculating group hours.
You'll need to supervise others
As a part of the course, you will be required to source your own supervisees. More information will be given to you about this at the start of the course.

Application process
There are four main steps in our application process.
Step 1: Attend a webinar or introductory call
The first step in our application process is to attend one of the information webinars about our Level 6 Certificate.
During the webinar, you’ll learn more information and context about the programme. It also involves reflecting on your own learning style and discussing this as a group in relation to the course. You'll also have the opportunity to ask the webinar facilitator any questions you might have about the course.
Please see our dates for the upcoming compulsory webinars:
- November 5 – 12pm to 1:30pm
- November 19 – 3:30pm to 5pm
- December 3 – 12pm to 1:30pm
- January 14 – 3:30pm to 5pm
- January 28 – 12pm to 1:30pm.
Step 2: Complete your application form
After you've attended an information webinar or spoken to a member of our team about the course, we'll send you an application form to complete.
As well as filling out some basic details, the application form will involve answering the following three questions:
- What is important to you in your supervisory relationship, either as supervisee or supervisor? (1500 characters - 8 marks)
- What is your motivation for undertaking this training now, and how do you see yourself applying it in your work? (1500 characters - 8 marks)
- Can you give an example of an ethical dilemma you have processed through supervision? What issues arose, and what was the outcome? (1500 characters - 14 marks)
Step 3: Provide references
You’ll need to provide references from two people to complete your application. You should have:
- one academic reference (e.g. a course tutor or supervisor)
- one character reference.
Neither reference can be a family relative, and it is your responsibility to source your own references and ensure these are completed by the referee.
All references must be submitted online via the reference request form.
Step 4: Receive your outcome
Once you've submitted your application form, we'll grade it and create an application shortlist. We'll send you an email to let you know whether you've been successful or not in gaining a place on the course intake you apply for.
If you're accepted onto the course, we'll require you to pay a deposit by making your first course fee payment. Your place on the course will be secured once we've received this deposit.
More details about payment options can be found in our information about fees and funding.
