BAFTA Kids Roadshow with Place2Be visits Hartlepool and South Shields

Last week the BAFTA Kids Roadshow visited primary schools in South Shields and Hartlepool. Pupils were treated to a TV presenting masterclass to boost their confidence and creativity, delivered by popular children’s TV presenters.

On Thursday 11 July, pupils at Rossmere Primary School in Hartlepool were joined by CBeebies presenter Chris Jarvis and fellow presenter and Teletubby voice actor, Pui Fan Lee. The TV presenting masterclass was a hit, and was followed by an assembly for Key Stage 2 pupils.

CBeebies presenter Chris, who presented the popular show Show Me Show Me, loved visiting the school, and said “The entire school day was spent helping children explore their favourite film, games and television experiences while boosting their confidence, mindfulness and general well-being.  Our main focus was storytelling which lies at the heart of everything in the arts.”

The BAFTA Kids and Place2Be excitement continued on Friday 12 July, when the roadshow visited Holy Trinity Church of England Academy in South Shields. Chris Jarvis was joined by CBBC Presenter Naomi Wilkinson to deliver a masterclass to pupils at the school.

Chris Jarvis had nothing but praise for the pupils at Holy Trinity, saying: “The Holy Trinity school is full of positive children and inspiring teachers who welcomed our BAFTA Kids Roadshow.  We spent a whole day exploring storytelling in the media and many other important life skills all linked to film, games and television. I hope the children enjoyed it as much as we did!”

CBBC Presenter Naomi took to Twitter to share her experiences from the day, saying "We’ve known each other for years but it was so lovely to finally work with the fantastic Chris Jarvis... not sure if you can quite tell from this photo but I REALLY enjoyed his storytelling!! 😂  It’s been a fab day in South Shields for BAFTA".

Caroline Reed, the Headteacher at Rossmere Primary School said:

“Improving and ensuring that our children have good mental health is central to everything we do at Rossmere Primary School. Working with an organisation like BAFTA will be a boost to the self-esteem of our children and will be hugely beneficial in raising the profile of our work on resilience and confidence building.”

Tina Murphy, the Headteacher at Holy Trinity Church of England Academy said:

“We were delighted to host a BAFTA Kids Roadshow with Place2Be in Holy Trinity CE Academy yesterday. This is a unique opportunity for the children to increase their awareness of the film and TV industry. It has also provided them with the special experience of meeting and working with TV presenters who they have watched during their early childhood years. We were all very excited!”
