Place2Be and Shout are leaving no child behind this Christmas

Crisis text line and Place2Be partner Shout are ensuring that all UK children have access to mental health support this Christmas.

Christmas is a time when people come together, whether that be friends, families or work colleagues. It is a time when we think of the good in the world, and all try to be 'merry'. But the very things that we are so looking forward to could be the cause of stress and anxiety for many families.

Not all children or adults will be looking forward to Christmas this year. Over the holiday season, just because a lot of our lives are temporally put on hold, it doesn't mean the issues faced by vulnerable children stop or slow down; in some cases, they can increase.

This is why Place2Be has partnered with Shout to power a text service for support in a crisis, an accessible format for a generation who have grown up mobile. Shout is a 24/7 text service, free on all major mobile networks. It is an anonymous, confidential service powered by caring volunteers.

Christmas can put pressure on families in many different ways. Financial and social pressures put families under strain. Messages of togetherness can often be reminders of the ones who can no longer join us, which can manifest itself in any number of ways. Often, children don’t know why they are feeling sad, and in moments like this, it is even more important to talk.

If you, or anyone you know, needs some support this Christmas, please text CONNECT to 85258.
