Shout Final

Place2Be is supporting Shout – a new service being developed to provide a 24/7 text messaging support service, to support anyone in crisis, anytime, anywhere.

Volunteers needed

If you haven’t worked in mental health before, but you are looking for a flexible way to offer your support and gain new skills, then this is the opportunity for you! It’s a completely new type of volunteering. It involves:

  • Having an impact on people’s lives and making a difference by helping to resolve crises

  • Developing communication, crisis management and problem-solving skills that employers, universities and colleges recognise as essential transferable skills in the work place. Your volunteering experience will set you apart from the competition

  • Getting a buzz from being part of a pioneering group of Crisis Counsellors

  • Doing your volunteering the way you want – from your own home or sitting in your friend’s kitchen. It’s up to you

  • Ongoing professional development and a dedicated Supervisor who will be there to help you when you need their support

What is the commitment?

This will not take over your life and should suit your lifestyle. It takes a few minutes to sign up online and then you’ll need to complete:

  • 30 hours of online training that you can timetable yourself, all overseen by your Coach

  • 2-4 hours per week volunteering remotely at any time of the day or night

  • No obligatory contract or weekly fixed commitment. If you need a break or are going on holiday, you just let your team know

  • You don’t need to have worked in mental health before; all you need is a secure internet connection and somewhere private to work
