Katie Thistleton to join Team Place2Be at the King’s Cup Regatta

Place2Be Ambassador Katie Thistleton will take to the seas with Team Place2Be to compete in the King’s Cup Regatta.

On Thursday 8 August, Katie will join a team of experienced sailors on Place2Be’s boat and compete to win the King’s Cup; a historic trophy first presented by King George V at Cowes’ Royal Yacht Squadron in 1920. Each of the boats in this eight boat regatta will represent one of the charities that are being supported this year by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Katie and Team Place2Be will be racing against the ambassadors and teams representing the seven other charities; and against the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge who are going head to head as skippers of individual sailing boats. The other charities represented include Action on Addiction, the Anna Freud Centre for Children and Families, Centrepoint, Child Bereavement UK, London’s Air Ambulance Charity 30th Anniversary Campaign, TUSK and The Royal Foundation in connection with Her Royal Highness’s longstanding work on Early Years.

Longstanding Place2Be Ambassador Katie is a TV and radio presenter, DJ, NCTJ qualified journalist and published author and is best known for her work on BBC Radio 1 and CBBC. With a keen interest in mental health, Katie regularly presents documentaries and reports on mental health for the likes of The One Show, Tomorrow's World and Radio 1. She is also a published children’s author and released her children’s advice book ‘Dear Katie: Real advice on real life problems with expert tips’ in 2018.

Katie said: “I am so excited for the King’s Cup and to race against the Duke and Duchess! I am especially honoured to represent Place2Be as I always am. I have seen first-hand the work Place2Be do in schools as I visit regularly, and I know how essential and beneficial it is. As someone who has suffered with mental health problems as a young person, and champions mental health awareness particularly for young people in my radio and TV work, I am so happy that Place2Be is such a huge part of this exciting event. I just hope I don’t get seasick!”
