Volunteer with us and support children’s mental health with every cheer

Join Place2Be's cheer squad and experience the excitement of some of the UK's biggest challenge events while supporting children's mental health.

Our superstar runners take on incredible challenges to raise vital funds for Place2Be, and this year they are set to raise over £185,000 to support children's mental health, but our teams are not just about fundraising - they’re about everyone coming together to make a difference to children’s mental health.

By volunteering at a Place2Be cheer point, you'll help create an electric event day atmosphere our runners will never forget.

There’s no experience needed - just bring your enthusiasm and we'll provide the rest!

Key information

Event Dates:

Royal Parks Half Marathon – 11 October 2026

London Landmarks Half Marathon – 4 April 2027

London Marathon Day 1 – 24 April 2027

London Marathon Day 2 – 25 April 2027

Location: London

Duration: 4-5 hours, but you can join for however long you’d like

What you'll do

Your role as a volunteer will be to stand at our cheer point and make as much noise as possible as our runners pass by.

Every cheer helps our runners push through those tough miles. Your energy and enthusiasm will make them feel supported and appreciated so they finish the race with a smile!

Don't worry if you've never volunteered at an event before. Our team will provide a full briefing and be on hand ahead of and on event day to make sure you feel confident and ready to raise the roof!

No experience needed

As long as you can make your own way to the event and are comfortable being outdoors throughout the day, you're ready to get involved and make some noise!

“I didn’t expect cheering for strangers to be so much fun! Every high-five, smile and “thank you” from the runners made the day even more special. If you’re thinking about volunteering, don’t overthink it, come ready to bring the energy, get involved and you’ll have an amazing day” Landmarks Half Marathon Place2Be Runner

“I thoroughly enjoyed volunteering with Place2Be during the Marathons - it was such a vibrant, heart warming experience. The cheers, the tambourines and the joyful singing truly lifted the runners’ spirits, and it was wonderful to see how much it meant to them. Some even stopped to take selfies with our team, which added to the fun and sense of community. I would wholeheartedly encourage you to get involved in this brilliant cause. It’s incredibly rewarding, deeply gratifying, and a beautiful way to support others while being part of something truly uplifting.” Volunteer at London Landmarks Half Marathon and London Marathon 2026
FAQs
Do I need any previous experience?

Nope! We're looking for friendly, enthusiastic people who are willing to get involved and support our runners.

Can children join the cheer squad?

Yes! Cheer squads are family-friendly, however anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a registered parent, guardian or responsible adult throughout the event.

What should I bring?

You are not required to bring anything, but we’d recommend bringing:

-          Weather-appropriate clothing including additional layers, depending on conditions

-          Comfortable footwear

-          A water bottle and snacks if you'd like them (some will be provided)

Can I bring friends, family, or children?

Absolutely, the more the merrier! Anyone aged 18 or over who wishes to volunteer should complete an application form.

If you are under 18 on the day of the event, you will need to seek permission from your legal parent or guardian to volunteer, who will need to register as a volunteer themselves. The legal parent or guardian must complete the online application form for themself, providing a name and date of birth of any accompanying under 18s. Under 18s will need to be accompanied by this responsible adult on the day.

Please also bear in mind it can be loud for young children.

Will there be somewhere to leave my belongings?

Storage facilities are not usually available, so we recommend bringing only essential items where possible.

Who will I be volunteering with?

You'll be part of a friendly Place2Be cheer squad made up of Place2Be staff, supporters and fellow volunteers.

How long does volunteering last?

Most cheer point shifts last approximately 4 to 5 hours, although you're welcome to volunteer for as short or as long as you’d like.

What if I have additional support needs?

We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds and abilities and are committed to creating an inclusive volunteering environment. If you have any additional support needs, disabilities, health conditions, or accessibility requirements, please let us know in your application or by emailing events@place2be.org.uk and we'll do our best to make suitable arrangements to help you take part support you throughout your volunteering journey.
