Research conducted by Deloitte highlighted the need for employers to invest in supporting working parents since employee retention and productivity are at risk when parents face challenges balancing work and family life.

  • 1 in 100 working parents who had left their job said it was entirely due to the mental health and wellbeing of a child.
  • Nearly half (46%) of working parents worry about their child’s mental wellbeing.

Place2Be’s online parenting course, developed in partnership with SLAM (South London and Maudsley-NHS Foundation Trust), will empower parents and carers to feel better equipped to manage their parenting journey.

The course is designed to support parents and carers of primary-age children, providing them with tools to deal with everyday parenting challenges and strengthen their relationships with their children. Based on tried-and-tested techniques, it covers topics such as connecting with your child, setting boundaries, and encouraging desired behaviours.

As part of the six-week programme, parents and carers have access to:

  • interactive content on a platform where they can share and learn from each other
  • online support from Place2Be Family Practitioners.

Companies like Deloitte, Morgan Stanley, DHL and Barratt have already trialled Parenting Smart with positive results, showing improvements in parental confidence.

Since 2022, the online programme has been used in Place2Be's partner schools, supporting over 2,500 parents and carers so far.

“As a parent and a behaviour specialist I feel the course is really good and I believe all parents need to know these basics of parenting and how to respond to behaviours positively.”
“I’ve enjoyed this course, I’ve got a lot out of it. Even though I thought I was doing everything right, I have still taken stuff away to modify my approach. It’s really good!”
“This course gave me time to step back and think. It was just the right format, not too much information or too little, and tackled the important parts head-on.”
