  • self-directed learning
  • live workshops on Teams
  • in-person workshops.

We’ll deliver the in-person elements of the course in a variety of regional UK locations, and the Teams sessions will include all groups on the programme.

About the workshops and tutorial days

Each of the 19 workshops uses of a variety of teaching methods, including:

  • tutor input
  • case studies
  • practical exercises
  • role play
  • small and large group work
  • discussion and feedback
  • video work.

During the workshops, you'll give and receive feedback from each other as well as from course tutors. Testimony from your own supervisor(s) is also needed for the course.

There is one tutorial day with a designated assessment tutor at a mid-point during the course, with a second and final tutorial day at the end.

Tutors strive to model the core counselling skills of empathy, respect and genuineness, working towards forming relationships based upon shared meanings. Tutors will model boundaries in terms of time, place and appropriate behaviour.

You'll need supervisory supervision

Our awarding body, Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB), requires candidates to have a minimum of five supervisory supervision hours with a senior/experienced clinical supervisor during this programme.

This should take the form of group* and/or one-to-one supervision. You need to source your supervisory supervision and keep a log of it.

*note that BACP guidelines will apply when calculating group hours.

You'll need to supervise others

As a part of the course, you will be required to source your own supervisees. More information will be given to you about this at the start of the course.
