About this course

You don’t need to be a specialist in child-counselling to complete our Certificate. The content is suitable for all counsellors and psychotherapists regardless of modality or client group.

Our tutors will challenge you to expand your knowledge, skills, self-awareness and experience to succeed on the programme.

By joining the 86% of students who successfully complete our Level 6 Certificate, you’ll be equipped to excel in a supervisor role, supported by your own research, theory and particular model.

Your learning will be a mix of self-directed and shared learning; you’ll explore theories and have opportunities to apply those theories in experiential ways with fellow learners. You will build anti-oppressive practice into your supervisory role and take a lifelong-learning approach to your practice.

You will be introduced to a range of supervision models and be supported towards integrating this theory in to your practice by ensuring it aligns with your therapeutic philosophy.

It's important that those working as counsellors for children and young people reflect the pupils in our partner schools. We encourage applications from people currently underrepresented in the counselling profession, including:

  • people from Black, Asian and ethnically diverse communities
  • people with disabilities
  • men
  • care leavers
  • gender-diverse members of the LGBTQI+ community.

About the workshops and tutorial days

The workshops will keep you engaged through tutor input, case studies, practical exercises, group work and discussion.

You'll give and receive feedback from each other as well as from course tutors.

Overall each student receives over 20 hours of one to one support including tutorials, skills observation, case discussions and specific written feedback in addition to the whole class and small group facilitation.

Meet our lead tutor

Tutors strive to model the core counselling skills of empathy, respect and genuineness, working towards forming relationships based upon shared meanings. Tutors will model boundaries in terms of time, place and appropriate behaviour.
