With your help, we’ll be there for the toughest times
Thank you for your support during the Big Give's Christmas Challenge, where any donations were doubled.
Although the Christmas Challenge has finished, you can still support Place2Be and transform the lives of children and young people.
Sometimes there is no way of shielding children from the toughest events in life. We offer children and young people the expert support and guidance they need to get through.
Thanks to your kind donations, children like Anna can receive specialist mental health support when they need it most.
When Anna* was 10 she became anxious and distracted at school. Her teacher found out that Anna’s mother was very ill. Anna was struggling to cope with her feelings.
The Place2Be counsellor at Anna’s school, Gabi, spoke with Anna’s dad and found out that Anna’s mother’s illness was terminal, but Anna’s parents didn’t know how to break the dreadful news to their daughter.
Gabi knew the whole family was going through an unimaginably tough time and needed her expert support. Gabi offered to facilitate that difficult conversation with Anna and her father.
Anna was upset when she understood that her mum wasn’t going to get better, but she had Gabi’s skilled support and lots of comfort and loving care from her dad.
When Anna’s mum passed away, Anna and Gabi continued to meet. Using guided conversation and play to help Anna work through her grief, Gabi is been there for Anna through the very toughest time.
When Anna was facing the toughest time in her life, our kind supporters meant we could be there.

A donation of £50 will support one child like Anna with one-to-one counselling where they can receive expert support for the tough experiences they are facing.
A donation of £100 could help fund expert mental health support for a school, giving pupils, parents and teachers someone to turn to.
How your donation helps
Some children love Christmas, of course. But for others it can be an isolating and lonely time. Some parents struggle with childcare and don’t have enough support. And sometimes school holidays lack activities, visitors and friends.
Place2Be drop-in counselling sessions will be busy in January, when the school term begins. With your help, skilled and experienced counsellors like Gabi will be there to provide the mental health support children need.
Anna’s grief for her mother will always be with her. She speaks to Gabi regularly, and with support, she has good friendships at school and is doing well considering the circumstances.
When times are tough, mental health support at school can be life-changing for children like Anna.
