The Young BAFTA Roadshow with Place2Be arrives in Birmingham

The Young BAFTA Roadshow with Place2Be arrived at Ark Victoria Academy in Birmingham today to promote creativity, wellbeing, and aspirational career pathways among primary-aged pupils.

The Young BAFTA Roadshow, now in its ninth year, provides pupils in underserved communities with access to professionals working across the film, television and games industries. At Ark Victoria Academy, pupils participated in a range of activities designed to enhance confidence, support self-expression, and introduce possible future pathways within the creative sector.

The event was hosted by television presenters De-Graft Mensah and Kia Pegg, alongside guest speaker Corey Brotherson, a creative consultant and games designer. These sessions provided pupils with a practical insight into the roles and skills involved in screen-based industries. This aligns with the Young BAFTA Roadshow’s wider objective to raise awareness of behind-the-scenes careers and promote the development of transferable skills.

Ark Victoria Academy joined leading children’s mental health charity Place2Be’s in-school mental health services earlier this year, and in the first three months of service, the school has already seen significant support from Place2Be. The school also maintains a proactive approach to emotional wellbeing, supported by pupil wellbeing ambassadors and additional mentoring provisions.

With close to half of Ark Victoria’s pupils eligible for Pupil Premium, initiatives such as the Young BAFTA Roadshow in collaboration with Place2Be play a valuable role in enhancing access to enrichment opportunities.

Inspiring the next generation of budding creatives, designers and content creators is central to BAFTA’s purpose, so we are thrilled to be partnering with Place2Be on our national roadshow, bringing talent to regions across the UK to showcase the power of our brilliant screen industries.
