Level 4 Certificate in Counselling Children

Place2Be’s Level 4 Certificate is a bolt-on course for qualified adult counsellors or those who are currently studying on a Level 4 or above adult Diploma course. Therefore, please note that our Level 4 Certificate does not follow on from our Level 3 Certificate. 

Place2Be's Level 4 Certificate is aimed at those who are undertaking, or have undertaken, adult counselling courses who want to work with children and young people.

The Certificate enables learners to build, develop and practise counselling skills for working with children and young people, over the course of a year.

What it covers:

  • 50 hours of counselling practice through a supervised and assessed placement in a Place2Be school


9 days of specialist training:

  • Volunteer Introductory Workshop (2 days) - To be attended prior to starting the course, as part of the required mandatory training for beginning your placement.
  • Volunteer Induction & Safeguarding Workshop - To be attended prior to starting the course, as part of the required mandatory training for beginning your placement.
  • Helping Children Tell Their Stories
  • Working with Metaphor
  • Children's Emotional Wellbeing
  • Attachment Theory and Self Awareness in the Counsellor
  • Working with Difference and Diversity
  • Making Endings with Children
  • Special Education Needs (SEN) and disability e-learning module

 

Useful for: 

  • New Volunteer Counsellors with Place2Be, who are already qualified as adult counsellors or are currently undertaking a Level 4 or above adult Diploma course


Entry requirements:

  • Students must have completed or be currently undertaking a Level 4 or above counselling or psychotherapy adult Diploma course
  • Before applying for the Level 4 Certificate, you will need to be accepted onto a Volunteer Counsellor placement with Place2Be. Click here to apply for a Volunteer Counsellor placement.
  • You must be on placement with Place2Be for the duration of the course 
  • Received counselling or psychotherapy yourself
  • Willingness to be playful and creative
  • Willingness to be self-reflective and having a commitment to self-development
  • Effective listening skills
  • Appropriate personal qualities of warmth, genuineness and empathy
  • Willingness to work in a group

 

Assessment:

Students should be prepared for substantial reading and written work outside of contact hours.

Written work required

  • 1700 words following each workshop, this may include a journal entry or short essay and reading assignment (draft and final submissions required)
  • 3000 word case study to be handed in at the end of the course (draft and final submissions required)

 

Accreditation:

  • The Level 4 Certificate is a 22 credit unit accredited and awarded by CPCAB (the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body).

How to apply 

Applications have now closed for our courses starting in November in London and Manchester - please scroll down to see dates for more available courses.

1. Before applying for the Level 4 Certificate, you need to be accepted as a Volunteer Counsellor with Place2Be.

2. Once you have been allocated a Volunteer Counsellor placement in a Place2Be school, please download and complete the Level 4 Certificate application form:

3. To submit your application please email your submission to qualify@place2be.org.uk.

4. Once we have received your application we will contact you to invite you to an Orientation Evening.

Places for the Certificate are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis and subject to suitability, following attendance at the compulsory Orientation Evening. 

Locations, Dates and Costs

Through generous sponsorship, the Level 4 Certificate is offered currently at £330* (this includes your £130 CPCAB registration fee). The full cost associated with the Level 4 Certificate course is £955.

*Academic year 2018/2019, please note this cost may vary year by year.

Glasgow 

For the above course in Glasgow, you will need to be available to attend an Orientation Evening on one of the following dates prior to being accepted onto the course: Wednesday 4th July or Tuesday 21 August
