Introducing POP: Pocket of Positivity

In February, BAFTA and Place2Be launched a competition for children to design a superhero that represents the power of kindness. Meet our winner - POP: Pocket of Positivity!

During Children’s Mental Health Week 2017, BAFTA and Place2Be launched a competition for children to design a superhero that represents the power of kindness.

A judging panel including BAFTA-winning animators, CBBC presenters, and Place2Be selected 14-year-old Jasmine Wood’s design as the winning entry.

With the help of BAFTA-winning animation studio Blue-Zoo Productions, makers of Tree Fu Tom and Digby Dragon, POP has now been brought to life! The team at Blue-Zoo Productions were incredibly impressed with Jasmine’s vision for POP.

Adam Shaw, Company Director at Blue-Zoo and BAFTA award winner said: “It was innovative and had real heart; we also liked the thoughtfulness in the message behind it”

Joe Kinch, Art Director on the project said: “The design was cheeky and fun, it really inspired the rest of the animation.”

Jennie Meadows, Director of Communications at Place2Be who helped to judge the competition, said:

“I, along with my fellow judges, thought Jasmine’s winning ‘Pocket of Positivity’ (POP) was outstanding. Through the competition, which coincided with our annual Children’s Mental Health Week, we wanted to highlight the value of spreading a little kindness to those around you – especially if someone you know is having a difficult time. We were impressed and moved by Jasmine’s ability to capture the importance of kindness, through her creation of POP with its special powers to help people think happy thoughts, conveying a very important message of looking out for those around you.

“We are absolutely thrilled with the creative animation from Blue-Zoo and hope that this will inspire children around the country to help carry their own pocket of positivity to help them through difficult times.”
