Model and Place2Be celebrity supporter Suki Waterhouse selected Celicia’s design which “took inspiration from right in front of her”.

11-year-old Celicia, who dreams of one day being a fashion designer, has won the opportunity for one of her designs to be turned into a real horseracing silk to be worn at Goodwood’s Magnolia Cup in August.

The competition, which was launched this year for the first time by Goodwood and Place2Be, was open to pupils at Place2Be partner schools who were invited to submit their own designs.

After reviewing all the entries, model and Place2Be celebrity supporter Suki Waterhouse selected the design by 11-year-old Celicia Wilson from Divine Mercy R.C Primary School in Manchester. Suki commented “I thought everyone's designs were fantastic! But I especially loved how Cecilia took inspiration from right in front of her - her Place2Be counsellor's outfit - and then made it into this unique design of her own for the Magnolia Cup.”

Commenting on the result, Celicia said: “When I found out the news I was jumping up and down and I nearly had tears coming out of my eyes, I was so excited. I have wanted to be a fashion designer or model ever since I was little, I'm always looking up new fashions online to get inspiration. This feels like the start of my journey.”

Catherine Roche, Chief Executive of Place2Be added: “We were delighted to be able to offer the pupils in our partner schools this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity thanks to the support of Goodwood. All the entries we received were of a very high standard, so I’m glad I wasn’t the one who had to choose a winner! Art and creativity are absolutely central to Place2Be’s support for emotional wellbeing in schools, and can help children express difficult feelings and emotions when they might not have the words.”

Place2Be works in 14 schools across Manchester and Greater Manchester, offering support to over 5,000 children, and has worked with Divine Mercy for almost 10 years.
