Our expert training programme empowers teachers and school staff to support pupils’ wellbeing, approach behaviour issues with greater understanding and manage personal stress to work more effectively.

Drawing on 25 years' experience working with teachers and school staff, the Mental Health Champions – Class Teacher programme, boosts participants’ confidence and knowledge of mental health through a series of workshops and consultations.

Duration: Two terms (or five to six months)

Cost: £8,000 for 20 participants (group bookings only)

Schools and organisations looking to invest in their staff development over a three-year programme may be eligible for a subsidised rate.

What does it cover?

  • Deciding what makes a ‘Mental Health Champion’ and practising skills to enhance empathy
  • Learning about attachment theory and its impact on the classroom, as well as key concepts in neuroscience
  • Developing cognitive behavioural and solution-focused techniques that empower children to find their own answers, build confidence and improve self-esteem
  • Reflecting on the wellbeing of the whole school community, considering working relationships with parents and carers and understanding the importance of teacher wellbeing.

What happens in the consultations?

These consultations allow up to six participants to reflect on their work with individual children and young people.

With specialist guidance and support from our mental health professionals, teachers and school staff can develop practical strategies to deal with challenging or concerning behaviour.

Does it work?

According to an extensive three-year study by NatCen, Mental Health Champions – Class Teacher is effective in helping newly qualified teachers to better support pupils' mental health.
