Place2Be is a leading children's mental health charity providing in-school support and expert training to improve the emotional wellbeing of pupils, families, teachers and school staff.

We provide emotional and therapeutic services in over 600 primary and secondary schools in England, Scotland and Wales, reaching a school population of approximately 350,000 children - building children's resilience early in life through counselling, creative work and play.

Place2Be also provides training on mental health and wellbeing for teachers and other professionals who work with children and young people, so we can help to build “mentally healthy” schools and communities where all children can thrive and grow up with prospects, not problems.

Overall Purpose

To respond to media requests in our busy press office and use the media to increase our profile by generating regular, high-profile coverage for the charity, and to support our campaigns. To write, edit and publish content across various channels including the website, social media and printed marketing materials. To support colleagues in the Communications team to evaluate our work and continuously improve our profile through monitoring and reporting.  To provide practical, administrative and media support at our UK wide events.

The Communications Officer will be responsible for:

• Drafting and distributing media releases and statements, briefing materials and features

• Contributing creative ideas to generate content for news stories and features

• Devising media strategies for specific campaigns and fundraising drives to appeal to target audiences

• Develop and manage the charity’s media toolkit, including the drafting and production of press releases, fact sheets, journalist briefings, anonymised case studies, as well as commissioning photography and developing other tools as required.

• Maintain our media web pages and support the production of our communications materials

• Work with the digital team to maximise the impact of social media

• Organising the design and production of new publications and materials, including print buying

• Supporting the Content Manager with maintaining and updating our accounts across social media platforms: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn

• Providing practical, administrative and media support to the Event Manager when required.

• Act as an advisor and communications support to colleagues across the charity on PR, press and other media-related issues and ensure all activity is co-ordinated and delivered in line with our strategic goals and operating plan at all times.
