Postgraduate Diploma and Masters

Our Postgraduate Diploma and Masters in Counselling Children is designed to equip participants with the skills and experience needed to become a qualified counsellor for children. 


Place2Be's Postgraduate Diploma and Masters in Counselling Children in Schools is accredited by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and validated by the University of East London (UEL). The course will equip learners to counsel children in any setting, with a specific focus on schools.

The Postgraduate Diploma is a two year part-time course. Upon completion, students will have the option to continue onto a one year Masters programme, which comprises a Research Dissertation module.

 As a student on the course you will:

  • Gain a professional qualification in Counselling Children in Schools validated by UEL and accredited by the BACP
  • Be offered an internal placement in a Place2Be school and on-site supervision
  • Learn how to work therapeutically with children in a variety of settings: schools, clinics, family centres, private practice
  • Receive training in child development, systemic thinking and integrative counselling theory
  • Develop your skills as a creative and reflective counselling practitioner
  • Deepen your understanding of yourself in a professional context
  • Develop your own philosophy and style as a counsellor for children based on the     Place2Be Therapeutic Approach
  • Attend lectures and workshops delivered by an eminent team of visiting practitioners who are experts in the field of child counselling and psychotherapy
  • Experience a challenging and life enhancing journey of growth and self discovery

How to apply 

  1. Download and complete the application form and submit it along with two references to qualify@place2be.org.uk and post it to 13/14 Angel Gate, 326 City Road, London, EC1V 2PT
  2. Before being interviewed for the course will have to have attended a Place2Be Taster Day. Applications can be submitted before your Taster Day.
