Priority vaccination of teachers and staff in schools – statement from Place2Be
Place2Be calls for all school staff to be prioritised in the next phase of the Covid vaccination programme. This is fundamental to enable the safe re-opening of schools for all students.
As a mental health charity working within school communities across the UK, we understand the negative impact of school closures and reduced face-to-face education on the mental, social and psychological wellbeing of children, their families and the wider school community.
Vaccinating teachers and those working ‘frontline’ in schools would provide reassurance and protect their health and safety. Hopefully, it would reduce absence or illness, meaning less disruption for pupils and enabling schools to get back to full operational capacity sooner.
Place2Be, therefore, supports any possible steps that can expedite the reopening of schools safely.
